"It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain,
so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.
This I command you: love one another.” Jesus; John 15:15-17
Why do I love St. Peter so much?! Because he is SO human! What do I mean by SO human? He has original sin, he messes up, he has weaknesses, yet he is chosen as the first Pope. What does St. Peter teach us?
"Simon, son of John, do you love me?" - Jesus
This Gospel passage strikes me because I hear Jesus asking ME, "Darcie, do you love me?" He doesn't just ask once, but three times. Each time, stripping away the familiarity of the question. We each have to answer this question. What's your answer?
Now is the time let Jesus ask you this question. "(Insert first name), do you love me?" "(Insert first name), do you love me?" "(Insert first name), do you love me?"
My response is much like Peter's, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Love is a choice. But how do we get to a point that there is no doubt we love Jesus? Not just the idea of Jesus, but Jesus Himself. The more we know Him, the more we love Him. The more we love Him, the more we know Him. It's a beautiful circle to get caught up in :)
So how do we start? Reading Scripture. Jesus is word made flesh. His Words in Scripture are true and living. Have you experience their living touch? Have you ever heard or read the Gospel and thought, "Wow that could have been written for me." Or "That's just what I needed to hear today." Or "That answers my question!"
Spending time with Scripture each day can change our lives.
